EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Edmundston Blizzard management announces the return of Jonathan Connely, completing the team’s coaching staff.
Connelly, who has been in this role since the beginning of the month, will oversee the development of the Blizzard goalies. He held this position for the first two seasons of the franchise. During the 2017-2018 campaign, the Blizzard won the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MHL) championship.
Originally from Edmundston, he works for the City of Edmundston as the sports programming coordinator.
After rising through the ranks with the Edmundston Minor Hockey Community Club, Connely was drafted (5th round and 89th overall) by the defunct Lewiston MAINEiacs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 2008-2009, he played five games in front of the Lewiston net before completing the season with the Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) adding three games. He also wore the colors of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus in 2013-2014. He has played during 11 campaigns in the Regional Hockey Circuit, mainly with the Saint-Basile As, with whom he took part in 14 games last season.
With the Blizzard, he will come to lend a hand, mainly during training and between periods on game days.
“The Blizzard currently has a very good goaltender duo that allows the team to be considered a serious contender for top spot in the league,” said Jonathan Connely.
