Martin Perron joins Blizzard coaching staff

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Edmundston Blizzard’s organization has announced the appointment of Martin Perron as an assistant coach. He will be part of the coaching staff of the team made up of Emery Olauson (head coach) and his assistants Parker Hickey, Martin Michaud and Stéphane Lavoie (goalkeepers).

” Marty Perron did a great job with the age group under us at Cité des jeunes last year. He has been involved with hockey in the area for a long time. I think he will he a great role model and resource for our players and will make an excellent addition to our coaching staff. We look to enhance the development of our players both on and off the ice and I couldn’t be more excited to add Marty to our coaching team “, said head coach Emery Olauson.

A career policeman for 20 years with the Edmundston Police Force in which he held several positions including the current one of patrol sargeant, Martin has at the same time accumulated a lot of hockey experience.

For the past two seasons, he has served as the head coach of the Edmundston Cité des jeunes A.-M.-Sormany Républicains leading the team to two Western AAA Conference championships. A native of Grand Falls, he played all his minor hockey there, including high school hockey with Thomas-Albert. He also played one season with the 1997-1998 Regional Hockey League’s grand champions Grand Falls Cataracts.

In early 2000s, he was an assistant coach for the Eskimos Junior B team in Edmundston. Subsequently, he coached at all levels of the Edmundston Community Minor Hockey Club, which he chaired for five years. He also coached with the Atlantic Hockey Group AAA Program for eight years (spring hockey). In addition to having all the basic coaching courses, he took the High-Performance Level 1 course in 2018, in Ottawa.

He was president of the Roch Voisine Knights of Columbus (Council 1932) Celebrity Golf Tournament. He has been involved with the Blizzard for three and a half years on the team’s management committee.
