GRAND-BOUCTOUCHE, N.B. – A destructive blizzard has just hit Grand-Bouctouche.
The Edmundston Blizzard showed its colors right from the start of the game. It’s not often that the winning goal is scored 27 seconds into the game. But that’s exactly what happened when newcomer Néka Jean shook the net behind West Kent Steamers goalie Victor Régis. The Blizzard added three more goals before heading to the locker room with a comfortable 4-0 lead. The game ended 7-0 in favor of the Blizzard (8-6-0-1), who won their third game in a row.
But the best performance of the day once again went to goalie Cédric Massé, who recorded his second consecutive shutout, tying an old Blizzard goalie record set in 2018-2019 by Ewan MacDonald. Massé has now shut out opponents for 125 minutes and 43 seconds, putting him within striking distance of MacDonald’s record (136:40).
In his second game in the MHL, Néka Jean finished the day with two goals, as did Éliott Guénette. For Jean, it was his second two-goal game in Junior A, having done so for the first time last season with the Notre-Dame Hounds (SJHL) almost exactly one year ago (October 25, 2024).
Darien Thomson (1g, 1a), Alex Thibault (1g), Nathan Crane (1g), Zachary Robichaud (2a), and Émile Fournier (2a) were the other standout players on offense for the Blizzard.
When the second period began, the Blizzard showed starting goalie Victor Régis of the Steamers the door. After allowing a fifth goal at 0:55, he was replaced by Xavier Farrah.
The Steamers (6-7-3-0) had a slight advantage in shots (27-26).
The Blizzard will host the Lightning Chaleur (formerly the Fredericton Red Wings) for the first time this season on Thursday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. Then, on Saturday, November 1 (7:30 p.m.), the Steamers will be the visitors.
Massé was named first star for the second consecutive game after shutting out Miramichi 3-0 on Saturday. Néka Jean (2nd) and Éliott Guénette (3rd) earned the other two stars.
