MHL cancels 2019-20 Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs due to COVID-19 concerns

Truro, N.S. (March 13, 2019) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) has announced that, effective immediately, the 2019-20 Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs have been cancelled due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. The MHL Board of Governors convened Friday morning to continue discussions surrounding the health and safety of players, team staff members, on and off-ice officials, volunteers, and fans.

Hockey Canada released a statement Thursday night to cancel all of their sanctioned activities, including national championships such as the Centennial Cup. After further discussions with Hockey Canada, the Canadian Junior Hockey League, and other stakeholders, the MHL Board of Governors has concluded that the 2019-20 Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs are cancelled due to the threat of potential exposure and contamination of all parties involved.

The MHL will release further relevant information as it becomes available.
