EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard made Noah Matulu its first choice (7th overall) in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MHL) draft held online on Saturday July 10.

A Shediac native, Matulu is a 5’8 “, 143-pound forward who turns 17 this November. Last season he played at the midget level with the Moncton Flyers. He collected 1 goal and 2 assists in 16 games. However, he made his mark in the playoffs with 4 goals and 4 assists in 8 games.

Noah’s brother Joachim (18) was drafted third overall by the Grand Falls Rapids. Joachim also played with the Moncton Flyers in 2020-2021.

In the 2nd and 3rd rounds, the Blizzard selected two other Flyers players, Jack Martin, a defenseman, and Samuel LeBlanc, a goaltender. Martin is from Upper Coverdale, a community east of Moncton. In 16 games last season, he totaled 3 goals and 7 assists. As for LeBlanc, of Memramcook, he played 7 games and maintained a 2.97 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.
