Truro, N.S. (April 20, 2021) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce Joshua Nadeau of the Edmundston Blizzard as the 2020-21 Rookie of the Year. In fifteen games, Nadeau finished with thirteen goals and eighteen assists. He burst onto the scene just days after his 17th birthday with an incredible first month of the season where the rookie from St-François, N.B. led the league in scoring with nine goals and eleven assists in eight games to earn honours as the Gongshow Top Forward and Pro Design Cresting Top Rookie for November. Nadeau was named as a Player of the Week on four occasions.
His 31 points on the season placed him 14th in overall league scoring, with the MHL’s best points per game average at 2.07. Among his accomplishments:
- 1st in rookies goals (13)
- 1st in rookie powerplay goals (6)
- 2nd in rookie assists (18)
- 2nd in rookie powerplay assists (7)
- Longest points streak of the season (14 games)
Nadeau was held off the scoresheet just once in fifteen games, which happened to be the first game of the season. From there, Nadeau had nine multi-point efforts, with a game high on November 14th of two goals and three assists in a 7-3 home victory over the Grand Falls Rapids. He then tallied three points in each of the next four games.
Nadeau was selected by Edmundston as a Territorial Draft Pick in the 2019 MHL Entry Draft. The Blizzard announced in December that Nadeau has committed to the University of Maine Black Bears, an NCAA Division 1 hockey program.
