Ramblers record 5-2 win

AMHERST, Nova Scotia – The Edmundston Blizzard suffered a second straight setback for the first time this season when the Amherst Ramblers won 5-2 on Nova Scotia soil on Saturday, January 4.

The Ramblers (19-9-2-0) took the lead two minutes into the first period and never looked back.

In the opening period, Jack O’Blenis (12th, at 2:36) and Jaden Reyers (18th, at 8:00) gave the Ramblers a 2-0 lead before Émile Fournier (27th) reduced the deficit to one goal at 9:14. For Fournier, it was a ninth consecutive game with at least one goal, tying the team mark set by Olivier Coulombe.

In the second period, Amherst regained a two-goal lead thanks to Jérémie Richard (1st, at 2:37). The Blizzard didn’t give up in the third period, scoring a second goal, Marco Martin’s first of the season (4:44). But the Ramblers took control of the game with the final two goals of the frame, from Kiefer Lyons (15th, at 9:59) and Jaden Reyers (19th, at 11:33).

For only the second time this season, the Blizzard (27-5-1-1) conceded more shots to their opponents, the Ramblers dominating 43-33.

After four wins since his acquisition, Sawyer Russell suffered his first setback in front of the Blizzard cage. Ramblers’ goalie was Lyam Leblanc.

In the loss, Fournier and Martin collected a goal and an assist each. The three stars were awarded to the local team (Lyons, 1st; O’Blenis, 2nd; Leblanc, 3rd).

The Blizzard play their next game on Thursday, January 9 (7:30 p.m.) when they host the Campbellton Tigers (18-10-4-1) at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
