Rookie of December – Honourable mention for Émile Fournier

Truro, N.S. (December 5, 2024) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) has named goaltender George Gallant of the Summerside Western Capitals as the Top Rookie for November. The 17-year-old from Summerside, P.E.I. posted a 5-1-0-0 record last month with a league-leading 2.17 goals against average. He was second to Truro’s Alexis Cournoyer with a .935 save percentage and also posted his first career MHL shutout.

After allowing six goals in a 7-4 loss to Grand Falls on November 1st, Gallant allowed just eight in his five remaining games for the month. He bounced back from that initial start with a 28-save shutout in a 4-0 win in Yarmouth on the 8th. Gallant made 28 saves in a 4-3 win over Campbellton on the 10th and 31 saves in a 6-1 win over Valley on the 21st. He posted 38 saves in a 4-2 win over Fredericton on the 24th and finished his month with 31 saves in a 7-1 win over Yarmouth on the 28th.

Honourable Mention – Émile Fournier (Edmundston Blizzard) – The 18-year-old from Sainte-Luce, Quebec led all rookie with eleven points in nine games in November. He had seven goals, tied for the fifth-most among all players last month, to go with four assists. Fournier was also among three players who had three game-winning goals in November. Among his standout performances was a shorthanded goal and two assists in a 5-3 win over Miramichi on the 8th, and had two goals on three separate occasions for the month.
