Season over for the Blizzard

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island – The Summerside Western Capitals ended the Edmundston Blizzard’s season by easily winning 4-0 at Credit Union Place Sunday night in Summerside.

The Western Capitals won the best-of-seven MHL’s Eastlink North Division semi-final series, 4-1.

Félix-Anthony Éthier collected the shutout for the Western Capitals. Raphaël Audet was the Blizzard goalkeeper. For a fifth game, the Capitals clearly dominated in terms of shots. On Sunday, they led 41-26.

After an interesting half in the first period for the Blizzard, the locals took the lead with two goals, those of Marc Richard (1st) and Sam Dow (1st).

With a 2-0 lead, the Western Capitals followed with two goals in the second period. Jacob Stewart scored his 6th and 7th goals in his 5th playoff game.

The Blizzard season is thus over, after a great campaign of 21-11-1-4 for 47 points in 37 games. It was the fifth season over .500 for the team since moving to Edmundston in 2017.

The elimination of the Blizzard also means the end of the junior career for six of its players, namely captain Brendan Sibley, Tristan Therrien, Austin Paul, Blake Richardson, Ben Lightbody and goalkeeper Raphaël Audet.

Blizzard management would like to thank all the players, coaching staff, host families, fans, sponsors, and partners for another exciting hockey season despite the up and downs caused by the pandemic.

The next step for the Blizzard will be the draft which will take place this spring.
