YARMOUTH, Nova Scotia – Led offensively by veteran Carl-Anthony Massé and in net by Simon Boucher, the Blizzard got their three-games-in-as-many-days trip to Nova Scotia off to a good start with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Yarmouth Mariners on Friday evening at Mariners Centre.
After scoring the game’s opening goal at 10:45 of the first period following a brilliant pass from Justin Hébert, Massé (3rd) deftly set the stage for Ryan Loveless’ (2nd) winning goal to break a 1-1 tie at 2:37 of the third period.
With barely a second left in the contest, Colby Morin pushed the puck into an empty net after being fed by captain Philippe Collette who extended his point streak to six games. For Morin, it was his first goal of the campaign.
Goalie Simon Boucher put in one of the finest performances of the young campaign in front of the Blizzard cage. Of the 22 shots he faced, only Justin Garneau (3rd) managed to beat him.
Faithful to their habits, the Blizzard players once again bombarded the opposing net, with 41 shots against Thomas Fontaine, who earned third star honors.
Massé (1st) and Loveless (2nd) were awarded the first two stars of the game, played in front of a packed house of 1,304 spectators, including many Acadians from the municipality of Argyle.
The Blizzard extended their early season winning streak to six, one shy of the team mark achieved in 2017-2018. Simon Olivier’s squad will enjoy a good night’s sleep before facing the Valley Wildcats in Berwick, Nova Scotia’s apple capital, on Saturday at 7pm.
