CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard continued their winning streak with a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon at the home of the Campbellton Tigers.
Edmundston’s 17-year-old goaltender, Olivier St-Onge, was sent into action and was solid throughout the game. While he was hardly tested in his first MHL game on October 10, turning aside 14 shots from the Valley Wildcats, Sunday’s game in Campbellton was a different story.
St-Onge faced 37 shots from the Tigers, as did his opponent Nathan Mills. After building up a 3-0 lead, the Blizzard had to face a tough Tigers team that gradually chipped away at the lead.
All three Blizzard goals were the result of deflections. Justin Hébert scored twice, his 6th and 7th goals of the campaign, including the winner. Will Allen (6th) scored his first goal in a Blizzard uniform.
After blanking the opposition for 86:30, St-Onge finally gave up his first goal after a sharp shot from Dalhousie’s Alexandre Lavoie, who scored his first MHL goal. In the third period, the Tigers added a second goal, Mathis Guévin’s 2nd at 10:48. The Blizzard held firm, even preventing the Tigers from pulling their goalie late in the period.
Stars went to Lavoie (1st), St-Onge (2nd) and Hébert (3rd).
The Blizzard (13-1-0-0) is on a four-game winning streak. They won three times in the past four days. Edmundston will be back on opposing rinks for the last three days of October: Thursday (against Pictou County), Friday (against West-Kent) and Sunday (in Grand Falls).
