EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Led offensively by Alexis Daniel and Damon Englehutt, with two goals and an assist each, the West Kent Steamers recorded their third consecutive victory over the Edmundston Blizzard with a 5-3 win on Friday at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
With the score deadlock at 3-3 in the third period, the Steamers (13-4-2-0) scored two goals in a span of exactly one minute (Daniel at 4:48 and Englehutt at 5:48) to run away with the win and extend their lead at the top of the Eastlink North Division to 4 points ahead of the Miramichi Timberwolves.
Brandon Clarke also found the back of the net for the Grand-Bouctouche team.
Peter Amanatidis was by far the Blizzard’s best player. Thanks to his tenacity and impetuous ardor, the captain scored twice. William Schofield (1g, 1a) was the other scorer for the hosts, who suffered a fourth straight setback.
The Blizzard dominated the shots (37-25). Once again, they were beaten by Xavier Fisk who showed a splendid form. Samuel LeBlanc was the Blizzard keeper.
Daniel (1st), Amanatidis (2nd) and Englehutt (3rd) were the stars of the game.
Blizzard’s Félix Bédard saw his streak of games with at least one point end at 12.
The Blizzard (10-8-0-0) will try to shake off their jinx Sunday afternoon (3 p.m.) when they host the Miramichi Timberwolves.
