The Blizzard sends the Timberwolves back to their den

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – While a hard-fought contest was expected, the Edmundston Blizzard showed no mercy to their opponents, the Miramichi Timberwolves—who had hoped to hold onto first place in the Eastlink North Division.

The Wolves were steamrolled on Friday at the Jean-Daigle Centre, falling 8-2 to a Blizzard squad that delivered another nearly flawless performance.

While the Blizzard’s talented offensive players stepped up once again, it was the younger players who particularly drew cheers from the consistently boisterous crowd. Rookies Robin Poitras and local player Alexandre Deschênes were acclaimed by the 2,155 spectators after scoring their first MHL goals. Defenseman Benjamin Damphousse unleashed a classic, blistering slap shot from the point to score his first goal of the season.

Darien Thomson (2nd and 3rd—including the game-winner), Noah Larochelle (5th and 1 assist), William Labranche (6th and 1 assist), and Eliott Guenette (1st and 1 assist) were the other goal-scorers for the Blizzard (5-1-0-0). The team thus reclaimed the top spot in the Eastlink North Division, sitting one point ahead of Miramichi (4-3-1-0) with two games in hand.

The Timberwolves’ limited response came from Charles-Olivier Giguère (5th) and Cameron LeBlanc (1st).

Honored before the game as the Blizzard’s Player of the Month for September, Charles-Éric Tremblay recorded an assist, extending his point streak to six games—a feat he shares with teammate Noah Larochelle. After allowing a goal on the first shot he faced, Olivier St-Onge was almost unbeatable for the rest of the game, securing the win while facing a total of 25 shots. Wolves starting goaltender Alexandro Montoya did not fare as well; he was pulled from the game just 10 minutes and 41 seconds in, following the Blizzard’s fourth goal. He was replaced by Jessy Cormier, who faced 32 of the 43 shots fired by the home team.

Thomson, who had not scored at least two goals in any of his previous 15 games (including the 2026 playoffs), earned the game’s first star. Labranche took the second star, and Larochelle the third.

The Blizzard will have the rest of the weekend off. They return to action on Wednesday, October 7, with a trip to Miramichi.
