The Blizzard shows no mercy for the Rapids

EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – The Grand Falls Rapids learned that you can’t blink when facing the Edmundston Blizzard, who scored five consecutive goals in a span of 7:27 to win 6-2 in front of a large crowd of 2,610 spectators at the Jean-Daigle Centre on Saturday night.

After taking a 2-0 lead, the Rapids saw the home team narrow the gap to 2-1 at 3:17 of the second period. Then, from 15:10 to 2:37 in the third period, the Blizzard took an insurmountable 6-2 lead.

Darien Thomson (32nd) at 3:17, Benjamin Damphousse (2nd) at 15:10, Charles-Éric Tremblay (13th) at 17:16, and Eliott Guennette (11th) at 18:56 brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Blizzard after 40 minutes of play. In the third frame, Michael Arsenault (15th) at 2:03 and Néka Jean (5th) at 2:37 scored the final goals of the physical game. Twenty-four penalties were called for a total of 120 penalty minutes.

Coen Miller (22nd) and Jonah Leard (17th) replied for the Rapids.

With the win, the Blizzard moved into third place in the Eastlink North Division with 50 points (23-15-2-2), two points ahead of the Rapids (21-14-5-1). Edmundston is one point behind Chaleur (24-13-2-1) and two points behind West Kent (23-11-3-3). The Blizzard has only 10 games left to play before the end of the regular season.

The Blizzard led 32-20 in shots on goal. Cédric Massé had another excellent start in front of the Blizzard net. His counterpart was Adam Lecours.

Arsenault (1st, 1g, 1a), William Labranche (2nd, 2a) and Damphousse (3rd, 1g) were named the game’s stars. Tremblay (1g, 1a) was the other Blizzard player to register two points.

Edmundston will play their next four games at home. On Saturday, February 7 (7:30 p.m.), they will host West Kent.
