The Blizzard stumbles in Berwick

BERWICK, NS – Of the three weekend games they play away to complete its regular season schedule, the Blizzard needed to defeat the Valley Wildcats to hope to finish 2nd or 3rd in the Eastlink North Division.

However, that is not what happened in the small Nova Scotian village of Berwick, Nova Scotia. The Wildcats played significantly better than the Blizzard to win 5-2 in front of a meager crowd of 234 spectators.

Luke Wilson did not steal the game’s first star. He participated in the first four goals of his team. He finished the match with two goals and two assists. Keigan Casey and Drew Somers completed the scoring for the Wildcats (18-16-2-1 = 39 pts) who secured their first playoff appearance since the 2015-2016 season.

Both Blizzard Tristans (Fortin and Therrien) replied for the team that slipped to fourth place in the Eastlink North section. The Blizzard (20-10-1-4) is posting a .643 winning percentage to the Fredericton Red Wings’ .647 (21-11-2-0).

Raphaël Audet (Blizzard) and Antoine Lyonnais (Wildcats) were the two goalkeepers. The Wildcats outshot 37-29.

The Blizzard will have a hard time against two excellent teams to complete its regular schedule. Saturday (7 p.m.), he visits the Summerside Western Capitals (30-4-1-1). Sunday (2 p.m.) he will visit the Amherst Ramblers (19-12-2-2).
