BATHURST, N.B. – For the third consecutive game, the Edmundston Blizzard saw their fate decided in overtime. On Sunday afternoon at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst, luck was not on their side as the Chaleur Lightning had the last word in overtime following Carter Bromley’s goal (9th) at 0:58 to give the home team a 3-2 win.
William Labranche was the undisputed star of the Blizzard, scoring his 8th and 9th goals in only his 11th game. With the Blizzard leading 2-1, Nolan Fowler (1st) tied the score at 2-2 at 13:30 of the third period. Will Clark (6th) also found the back of the net for Chaleur (13-7-0-0 = 26pts), which joins the Grand Falls Rapids (12-6-2-0 = 26pts) in first place in the Eastlink North Division. The Blizzard (10-6-1-2 = 23pts) trails the co-leaders by three points.
The Blizzard fired 28 shots on George Foti, while the Lightning had 22 shots on Cédric Massé.
George Foti (1st), David Lebel (2nd; 2 assists) and William Labranche (3rd) were selected as the stars of the game. Alex Thibault had a good offensive game for the Blizzard with two assists.
The Blizzard will play its next two games in Nova Scotia, facing the Truro Bearcats on Saturday, November 15 (7 p.m.) and the Pictou County Weeks Crushers the following day (2 p.m.).
