EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The MHL Metalfab Cup final gets underway on Friday, April 18 at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston. The Edmundston Blizzard and Pictou County Weeks Crushers will play a best-of-seven series in a 2-2-1-1-1 format.
Due to their first position in the season standings, the Blizzard will have the privilege of playing the first two games at home.
The Blizzard disposed of the Miramichi Timberwolves 4-1 in the first round, then the Campbellton Tigers 4-0 in the next round.
For their part, the Weeks Crushers, based in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, had an identical run, eliminating the Summerside Western Capitals 4-1 and the Truro Bearcats 4-0.
During the season, the Blizzard won both meetings against Pictou County, 9-4 in Nova Scotia (October 24, 2024) and 4-3 in overtime in Edmundston (November 30). However, the two teams have different line-ups since almost five months, and the final series promises to be an interesting one.
Individual tickets for the first two games at the Jean-Daigle Centre, on Friday April 18 and Saturday April 19, will go on sale online only, starting Sunday April 13 at 9 a.m. Fans are urged to get their tickets quickly, as the last game of the series against Campbellton was sold out.
The Blizzard won the MHL playoff championship in 2018, while the Weeks Crushers did the same in 2016. This will be the Blizzard’s third appearance in the ultimate series since relocating to Edmundston in 2017.
