The most demanding month in Blizzard history

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard begin today the biggest test in their history: 12 games in 23 days. Never since the original 2017-2018 season, have they played more than 10 games in one month. What’s more, 9 of these 12 games in October will be played on opposing rinks, another high.

And management made a brilliant decision to allow the team to leave on the bus early Thursday morning, so the players could be fresh and ready for a three-game weekend in Nova Scotia.

Unbeaten in five games, the Blizzard take on the Yarmouth Mariners (2-3-0-1) tonight (Friday, 7 p.m.). On Saturday (7 p.m.), they visit the Valley Wildcats (3-3-0-0). And on Sunday (4 p.m.), it’s off to Truro to play against the Bearcats (0-5-0-0).

Last season, the Blizzard won their three weekend games against these same three teams by scores of 8-4 against Valley (September 29), 6-2 over Yarmouth (September 30) and 5-1 against Truro (October 1). Will the scenario be repeated? One thing’s for sure: if the Blizzard manage to win their three weekend games, they’ll break their record of seven straight wins to start a season, a mark achieved in 2017-2018. That’s when the Junior A hockey frenzy began in Edmundston, and it hasn’t let up since.

The Blizzard play their next home game on Thursday, October 10, when they host the Valley Wildcats (7:30 p.m.).
