The Steamers defeat the Blizzard in overtime

GRAND-BOUCTOUCHE, N.B. – It took just 44 seconds of overtime for the West Kent Steamers to defeat the Edmundston Blizzard 4-3 on Friday night at the J.D. Irving Centre in Grand Bouctouche.

However, the Blizzard deserves credit for coming back from a two-goal deficit (3-1) in the third period to force overtime, which allowed them to snatch a valuable point.

Defenseman Natan Grenier ended the game after a two-on-one rush against goalie Cédric Massé, who had no chance on Grenier’s shot.

Nathan Larochelle (14th), Charles-Éric Tremblay (12th), and Émile Fournier (16th) scored for the Blizzard (21-14-2-2).

West-Kent’s goals were scored by Théo Lebrun (1st), Cam White (4th), Dawson Grandy (3rd) and Natan Grenier (15th).

The Steamers dominated 29-24 in shots on goal. Xavier Farrah was in goal for West-Kent (20-11-3-3).

Grandy (1st), Grenier (2nd), and Fournier (3rd) were named the stars of the night.

In the standings, the Bathurst Lightning Chaleur leads the Eastlink North division with 49 points (23-11-2-1). Three teams are tied for second place with 46 points: the Steamers, the Blizzard, and the Grand Falls Rapids. The Campbellton Tigers are far behind in fifth place with 36 points.

The Blizzard will play its next game on Saturday, January 24 (7 p.m.) when it visits the Miramichi Timberwolves.
