GRAND FALLS, N.-B. – After taking a 2-0 lead in the first period, the Miramichi Timberwolves never looked back, defeating the Edmundston Blizzard 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
Jacob Lafontaine (14th) and Ryley Callan (5th) scored both goals for the hosts in the first period. Taking advantage of a five-minute power play, the Blizzard bounced back in the second period thanks to Nathan Plamondon (10th).
In the third period, the Timberwolves regained their two-goal lead following Mitchell Wagner’s 10th goal at 15:09. The Blizzard closed the gap to 3-2 at 16:57 on Justin Hébert’s 11th goal. Justin David then made it 4-2 by pushing the puck into an abandoned net at 17:30. But the Blizzard struck back with 36 seconds left in the period on Philippe Collette’s 11th goal, who had set up the Blizzard’s first two goals.
The Blizzard (20-3-1-0) unleashed 36 shots compared to 22 by the Timberwolves (12-9-0-2). Jack Flanagan was Miramichi’s goalkeeper. Simon Boucher was in front of the Blizzard cage.
Wagner (1st), Flanagan (2nd) and Collette (3rd) earned stars of the game. The Blizzard will play their next two games at the Jean-Daigle Centre. They will host the Campbellton Tigers on Thursday, November 28 (7:30 p.m.) and the Pictou County Weeks Crushers on Saturday, November 30 (7:30 p.m.).
