EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – On the day of the Mariners-Blizzard game, the two teams made an important transaction. The Edmundston Blizzard received Will Allen from the Yarmouth Mariners in return for Ryan Loveless. The Mariners also acquire the rights to Ryan Small and Ryder MacQueen, two players drafted by the Blizzard. Edmundston also gets a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft.
Allen was traded from the Miramichi Timberwolves to the Mariners on Friday. With Allen, the Blizzard will add some punch to its offense. Since the 2021-2022 season with Miramichi, he has collected 88 points (41g, 47a) in 75 games. Last season, the Moncton forward totaled 40 points (22g, 18a) in just 24 games. This fall, he scored 16 points (5b, 11p) in 9 games. Despite his 5’10” frame, Allen is also a player who gets physically involved, as evidenced by his 156 penalty minutes in four seasons. Allen has interesting QMJHL experience, having played in 48 games with the Charlottetown Islanders, with whom he amassed 9 points (6g, 3a).
Allen was drafted in the fourth round (70th overall) of the QMJHL draft by the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in 2021.
Originally from Paradise, Newfoundland, Ryan Loveless was in his second campaign in the Blizzard uniform. In 59 games combined, the 5’11’’ forward collected 15 goals and 24 assists. In his rookie year of 2023-2024, he impressed with 32 points (12g, 20a) in 47 games.
Loveless was a fourth-round pick of the Fredericton Red Wings in the 2022 MHL midget draft. His rights were transferred (along with several draft picks on both sides) to the Blizzard on December 10, 2022, in return for Mathieu Pelletier.
The Blizzard welcomes Will Allen and would like to thank Ryan Loveless for the valuable services he has provided to the Blizzard since last season, and wishes him every success with his new team.
