Western Capitals take their revenge

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island – The Edmundston Blizzard was long awaited in Summerside. The Western Capitals literally dominated the Blizzard in the first period to finally win 7-3 on Saturday night in front of 1,252 fans at Credit Union Place.

Summerside avenged it 5-2 defeat at Edmundston on September 20. On Saturday, both teams were dead even at 1-1 in the first period when the Western Capitals broke with three goals in five minutes, giving them a commanding 4-1 lead.

Top score in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League last season, Brodie MacArthur, notched a hat trick. The other goals for Summerside came from Bennett MacArthur, Kallum Muirhead, Nick Reeves and Brodie MacMillan in an empty net.

Chrystopher Collin participed to all Blizzard goal. He had one goal and two assists. Isaac Chapman scored his league’s leading 10th goal of the season. Tristan Gagnon got Blizzard’s final goal.

Goalkeeper Ewan MacDonald had a tough night between the pipes for the Blizzard. He allowed 6 goals in 35 shots. His counterpart, Dominik Tmej, blocked 36 of the 39 shots he received.

The Western Capitals and the Blizzard now share first place in the Eastlink North Division with identical records of eight wins and two losses.

The Blizzard, which sees its winning streak stopped at seven, will be inactive for a full week. Emery Olauson’s squad will return to the ice at the Jean-Daigle Centre on Sunday, October 20 (3 pm) hosting the Grand Falls Rapids.
