Truro, N.S. (June 18, 2026) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce that Edmundston Blizzard defenseman Alexis Chénard has been named the 2025-26 MHL Scholastic Player of the Year. The award carries with it a $2,000 bursary.
Chénard, who has been taking classes at the Université de Moncton towards a Health Sciences diploma, has played two seasons with Edmundston. On the ice this season, he had two goals and ten assists in 49 games for the Blizzard, averaging just over 20 minutes of ice time per game. In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, Chénard had one goal and seven assists in fifteen games, averaging nearly 25 minutes of ice time per game.
Off the ice, Chénard was involved in Edmundston’s Blizzlecture program, helping promote literacy among elementary school students across Northwestern New Brunswick. He has also participated in community skating events, where Blizzard President André Lebel says Chénard’s welcoming personality allows him to connect naturally with young athletes and fans. Through his leadership, discipline, and ability to excel in athletics, academics, and community service, he was named the Edmundston Blizzard Student-Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
Chénard was named the winner of the 2025-26 United General Insurance Corporation (UGIC) Lighthouse Award, presented to a player who exemplifies excellence in athletics, academics, and community service. He received that honour, and associated bursary, during a ceremony at Centre Jean Daigle ahead of Game 3 of the Metalfab MHL Cup Final against Truro.
The MHL congratulates Chénard on his successes on and off the ice and wish him well at the Université de Moncton next season.
