2020 MHL Entry Draft to be Broadcast Throughout Atlantic Canada

Truro, N.S. (June 7, 2020) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce that the 2020 MHL Entry Draft will be broadcast live in Atlantic Canada. Eastlink Community TV will carry the first two rounds live on Saturday, June 13th, starting at 10 a.m. on channels 10 and 610 in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. Kevin Northup and Mike Smith will have breakdowns of the selections and interviews with various players, coaches, and general managers as the MHL’s twelve teams build for the future. The broadcast will also be carried in New Brunswick on Rogers TV, channel 10.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 MHL Entry Draft will be held online, powered by HockeyTech, to ensure health and safety protocols are followed. In addition to the live coverage on Eastlink Community TV and Rogers TV, fans can see each selection as they’re at themhl.ca or by following @THEMHL on Twitter.

“We’re excited to bring this event to more of our fans and offer a new way to follow the draft,” says MHL President Steve Dykeman. “Thank you to our broadcast partner Eastlink for making this possible and to Rogers for being on board as well.”

The draft consists of ten rounds in total, two of which are territorial selections. Teams can each make up to two territorial selections, draft picks from their area, and teams which do not are given compensatory selections after the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

The MHL’s Annual General Meeting, a staple of draft weekend, was held on Thursday through a video conference. The Board of Governors and Executive discussed a number of matters relating to a return to play and on how to continue to build and grow the MHL on and off the ice.
