Blizzard drops first game in Summerside

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island – The Edmundston Blizzard couldn’t hold a 2-0 lead when they saw the Summerside Western Capitals score four unanswered goals and the Prince Edward Island team won 4-2 at the Credit Union Place to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Maritime Hockey League Eastlink North Division semi-final Series.

The Blizzard started the game well and even stood up to the locals until the 9th minute in the third period.

Peter Amanatidis (17:46 in the 1st) and Mitchell McLeod (0:52 in the 2nd) gave the Blizzard a 2-0 lead. The Western Capitals responded at 4:03 of the second period thanks to the goal of ex-Blizzard Aaron Brown.

The more the game progressed, the more the Western Capitals regained their rhythm. After all, they led the MHL with 206 goals scored in 38 games this season, for an average of 5.42 goals per game.

Summerside tied the game 2-2 at 9:05 on Carter Murchison’s goal. Logan Kelly-Murphy scored the winner at 13:54 and Colby MacArthur dashed any hopes of a comeback making it 4-2 at 19:07.

The Capitals outshot the Blizzard 33-19. Edmundston had just four shots in the third period. Raphaël Audet was exceptional in front of the Blizzard net. He fully deserved the second star of the game. Kelly-Murphy (1st) and MacArthur (3rd) obtained the other stars of the game.

The two teams will get back on ice at Credit Union Place in Summerside on Sunday at 7 p.m.
