Blizzard loses in Summerside

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island – The Summerside Western Capitals used their favourite weapon to beat the Edmundston Blizzard 6-5 in Prince Edward Island on Sunday night.

The hosts scored three goals on three power plays, the last one with 55 seconds left in the third period. Needless to say, the Blizzard’s penalty prior to that goal was extremely questionable. The Blizzard suffered their first loss after 14 consecutive wins.

Overall, the Blizzard outshot their opponents 35-26. Strangely enough, all three stars of the game went to the Western Capitals.

Olivier Coulombe (1g, 2a), Alex Arsenault (1g, 1a), Patrick LeBlanc, Tim Porter and Peter Amanatidis found the back of the net for the Blizzard who complete their regular season with a 38-13-0-1 record. Their 77 points are the same number established in 2019-2020. Noah Matulu had two assists in the loss.

In scoring his 8th goal of the season, Porter beat the previous mark of 7 for a defenseman set by Alexandre Bernier, Nolan Alward and Tristan Mercure.

With three points, Olivier Coulombe (52g, 30a) completes the season with 82 points in only 37 games, one more point than the previous team record set in 2019-2020 by Brock McLeod. His 9 straight games with a goal is also a record for a Blizzard player. Arsenault finishes the campaign with 80 points (26g, 54a) followed by Jérémy Duguay with 73 points (22g, 51a).

Sid McNeill (2g, 3a), Matthew MacLean, David Sbilevich, Max Chisholm and Marc Richard scored on Samuel LeBlanc.

The Blizzard will return to Edmundston and prepare for the first round of the Metalfab MHL Cup playoffs this week against the Miramichi Timberwolves. The schedule for the best-of-seven series will be announced early this week.
