YARMOUTH, Nova Scotia – A second effort by Brendan Young gave the Yarmouth Mariners a 2-1 win over the Edmundston Blizzard at 4:03 of the overtime Friday night at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth. The Maritime Junior A Hockey League’s best-of-seven final series is now tied 2-2.

Game 5 of the series will be played Sunday at 3 pm at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston.

Young took advantage of a defensive clumsiness behind Francis Asselin’s net. From his knees, Young lifted the puck over the Blizzard’s goaltender to get the winner.

The Mariners set the pace for 50 minutes of play. The Blizzard had a boost of energy in the last ten minutes of play in the third and also dominated in overtime.

Andrew Martell scored the only goal in the first period. Trailing 1-0, the Blizzard came to life thanks to Dany Coulombe who beat Leif Hertz at 11:03 after receiving a pass from Gabriel Vanier.

Asselin blocked 42 pucks and Hertz 33.

Young (1st), Hertz (2nd) and Asselin (3rd) earned the stars of the game. Dany Coulombe was unquestionably the best forward on both teams. His speed allowed him to get some good chances to score.

As the evening before, all opportunities on the power play have been neutralized. Edmundston’ attack was silenced three times as well as Yarmouth (0-for-4).
