EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard organization is pleased to announce the appointment of Parker Hickey as an assistant coach for next season.
Hickey joins head coach Emery Olauson and assistant coach Martin Michaud.
Hickey, 24, was born in Toronto, Ontario. Prior to moving to Edmundston, he was based in Rossland, British Columbia, where he held the position of director of analytics for the BCHL Trail Smoke Eaters (junior A) during the 2018-19 season. In 2017-18, he served as assistant general manager for the Castlegar Rebels of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
Parker Hickey studied engineering at Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario) and sports management at Columbia University (New York).
Hickey grew up in Montreal as well as in Bathurst where he put on skates for the first time.
“Growing up in Bathurst, I remember coming to Edmundston to play minor hockey tournaments. Obviously, the Blizzard were not around then but it was nonetheless evident this community loves hockey. I had a lot of positive experiences in Edmundston growing up and it is special to return to the east coast to a team three hours down the road (Bathurst) from where I laced my skates up for the first time,” said Hickey.
Parker Hickey is very happy to share his knowledge of hockey behind the bench. “I am extremely excited to join the Blizzard. Every time I asked hockey people about the program, the answers were the same. The phrases “great program” and “great people” were repeated over and over. To coach for a team that gets such great community and fan support is more than I could have imagined in my coaching debut.”
Blizzard’s head coach Emery Olauson is very pleased to this new addition to the team. “Parker is a very smart and driven person that is a huge addition to our staff. He will be a big resource for both the players and myself. Parker has several options to join organizations across the country and in the WHL, I feel very fortunate that he chose to come to Edmundston!”
