Turgeon gives Timberwolves overtime win

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Zachaël Turgeon scored at 1:31 of the second overtime period to give the Miramichi Timberwolves a 4-3 victory and a tough blow to the Edmundston Blizzard, who now trail 3-0 in the best of seven series of the Eastlink North Division final of the Metalfab MHL Cup. The game took place on Tuesday evening at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston.

The Blizzard saw victory slip through their fingers. They led 3-2 when David Doucet (2nd star) found the back of the net to tie the game with just 18 seconds left in the third period. The Wolves had just pulled their goalie in favor of a sixth player.

Peter Amanatidis (2nd, shorthanded), Jérémy Fortin (3rd) and Justin Hébert (1st) took turns in the first period to foil goaltender Jack Flanagan, who faced 36 shots. Blizzard forward Colby Morin earned third star honors. He picked up an assist.

Turgeon (5th, 1st star) scored his first goal of the night in the first period. He was followed by Jeremy Duhamel (2nd) in the second period.

Nicholas Sheehan faced 41 shots in front of the Blizzard cage.

After taking a 3-1 lead after the initial period, the Blizzard saw the Timberwolves gain more and more confidence as the game progressed. In the two overtime periods combined, they outshot the Timberwolves 9-1.

A state of emergency has been declared in the Blizzard camp, as they face elimination on Thursday in Miramichi (7 p.m.).
