Blizzard defeats Red Wings

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – A win that was beyond any doubt for the Edmundston Blizzard on Sunday afternoon at the Jean-Daigle Centre.

Led once again by a diversified attack and a tight defense, the Blizzard defeated the Fredericton Red Wings 6-2. Edmundston (27-12-0-1) regained the first position of the Eastlink North division. With 55 points, the Blizzard leads the Campbellton Tigers by one point (24-13-4-2) and the Summerside Western Capitals (26-13-1-0) by two points.

And who else but Olivier Coulombe to score the winning goal in the second period. Coulombe added another goal in the third to bring his streak to 26 with at least one point. He has 56 points (35g, 21p) this season.

Patrick LeBlanc (1st star, 1g, 1a), Noah Matulu (2nd star, 1g), Tim Porter (3rd star, 1g, 1a) and Tristan Fortin (1g) also beat Wings goaltender Mathias Savoie, who faced 37 shots. Alex Arsenault (3a) and Mitchell McLeod (2a) also contributed to the Blizzard’s offensive efforts.

In the opposing camp, Jake Tracey and Manix Sarrasin put the puck passed goaltender Samuel LeBlanc who was faced with 19 shots. Former Blizzard Mathieu Pelletier had two assists.

The Blizzard will host the Truro Bearcats (23-14-0-2) next Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).
