EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Another outstanding performance by the Edmundston Blizzard in the third period earned them a fourth win in as many pre-season games. The Blizzard broke a 3-3 tie midway through the third period, scoring four unanswered goals to win 7-3 over the Campbellton Tigers at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
This was the final exhibition game for the Blizzard, who end their training camp with a perfect 4-0 record.
The Blizzard attack was once again diversified, with 11 players seeing their names appear on the scoresheet. Noah Matulu (1g, 1a; 1st star), Ryan Loveless (1g, 1a), Jérémy Ste-Marie (1g), Jérémy Fortin (1g), Peter Amanatidis (1g), Philippe Collette (1g), Colby Morin (1g) and Jérémie Thibodeau (2a, 3rd star) each contributed on Blizzard’s offense.
Loveless scored in each of his four preseason games and finished camp with five goals.
On the Tigers’ side, Mathis Guévin (2nd star) was astonishing with all three of his team’s goals. Nick Dyson also did well with two assists.
The Blizzard dominated 42-31 in the shots column. Xavier Farrah made a series of spectacular saves to keep the Tigers in the game. But the Blizzard struck like a steamroller in the last ten minutes of the game.
The Blizzard have scored four third-period goals in their last three games, giving an indication of the intensity and speed of Simon Olivier’s players.
Goaltender Nicolas Sheehan saw action for the first time in a prep game and had an excellent night. His last game in a Blizzard uniform was on December 3, 2021, before he was recalled by the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats.
Now that the preseason games are over, the Blizzard will kick off their season next weekend with two games at the Jean-Daigle Centre, first on Friday, September 15 against the West Kent Steamers, and the following day against the Fredericton Red Wings. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
