Blizzard wins easily 9-2

GRAND FALLS, N.B. – If the preseason games serve as an evaluation, the Edmundston Blizzard staff must certainly be happy with what they saw this weekend.

After a 6-5 victory Saturday in Edmundston, the Blizzard won 9-2 over the Grand Falls Rapids on Sunday evening, this time at their home.

We could see the undeniable talent of the members of the forward line Blake Richardson Austin Paul and Noah Gibbs who seemed, at times, to have played together for a long time. Richardson and Gibbs netted two goals apiece, while Paul added two assists. All the line members were selected as the three stars. Richardson earned the first star, followed by Gibbs (second) and Austin (third).

The other Blizzard scorers were Jake Measel (1g, 1a), Aiden Tucker, Mitchell McLeod (1g, 1a), Alex Savoie and Mathieu Pelletier (1g, 1a). Jesse Chamberlain and Dylan Lang contributed two assists each. For Gibbs, it was a third goal in two pre-season games. Pelletier scored a second goal in two nights.

Leading 3-0 after one period, the Blizzard gave themselves a 7-goal priority before Matt Spence managed to beat Will Hodgson, the second goalkeeper used by the Blizzard in the game. Nathan Nadeau was the starter in front of the visitors’ cage and gave the Rapids nothing.

Bryce Thompson scored the Rapids’ second goal.

Edmundston led 41-23 in shots. The two goalies for Grand Falls were Joey Hawco and Alex Myatt.

The Blizzard will resume training for their next preseason game on Saturday September 11 in Fredericton.
