Coulombe 3 Rapids 1

GRAND FALLS, New Brunswick – Olivier Coulombe shone again when he scored all of the Blizzard’s goals to guide them to a 3-1 triumph over the Grand Falls Rapids on Sunday afternoon at the E. & P. Sénéchal Center.

After the game’s first goal scored by Ben Diamond (3rd star), of Grand Falls, Coulombe took care of the rest to register his 17th, 18th and 19th goals of the campaign, to take the league in the MHL, even if he has only appeared in 12 of the Blizzard’s 27 games this season. It was a third hat trick this season for Coulombe, tying the old marks of Kyle Ward (2017-2018) and Gabriel Vanier (2018-2019).

The Blizzard extended their record winning streak to ten. And Coulombe, the game’s first star, has collected a point in all his 12 games this season. The team record of 15 belongs to Brock McLeod who achieved the feat in the 2019-20 season.

Anastasios Lazaris contributed to the attack with two assists. Defenseman Tim Porter was moved forward for the game and his speed and determination served him well, especially during shorthanded situations.

Both goalkeepers were very solid. The Blizzard outshot the Rapids 27-17. Thomas Boucher earned his ninth straight win since joining the Blizzard. The loss went to Joshua Fleming (2nd star).

The Blizzard multiplied the attacks and hit three posts including one by newcomer Patrick LeBlanc who looked very sharp in his first game with Edmundston, LeBlanc played three previous games with the Blizzard back in 2018-2019.

Simon Olivier’s squad will complete 2022 with three home games, on December 10 (against Grand Falls), December 16 (against Campbellton) and December 17 (against Truro). All three matchups will begin at 7:30 p.m.
