Easy win for the Blizzard in Summerside

EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – The Edmundston Blizzard secured a 5-0 lead in the second period in Summerside and easily defeated the Western Capitals 7-4 in the only Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) game on Sunday.

Liam Leonard (2g, 1a), Logan Johnson (2g), Maxime Grandmaison (1g, 2a), Kyle Ward (1g), Nick Jessome (1g), Alexandre Jacob (2a), and Dominic Hachey (2a) led the way for the Blizzard which had its best offensive production of the season.

TJ Shea, Scott Bagby, Brodie MacArthur and Alex Hambly scored for the Western Capitals (5-5-1-0).

This victory allowed the Blizzard (9 wins, 2 losses) to maintain its lead at the top of the Eastlink North Division. In the league’s overall standings, the Blizzard is now tie with the Yarmouth Mariners (9-2-0-0), leaders of the Eastlink South Division.

On Sunday, the Blizzard jumped to an early lead with the score 4-0 in its favor after 20 minutes. Edmundston scored early in the second period before seeing Summerside coming back to life but the Blizzard was never threatened from that point.

Goalkeeper Francis Asselin got the victory in front of the Blizzard net. He blocked 22 of the 26 shots he faced. The Edmundston players fired 33 times in the direction of the opposing goalie.

Logan Johnston earned the first star of the game and Maxime Grandmaison the second. The third star belonged to TJ Shea of the Western Capitals.

QUICK NOTES – After the weekend games, four Blizzard players are among the top 10 leaders in the points category. TJ Shea of Summerside is first with 18 points, followed by Logan Johnston (3g, 14a) and Kyle Ward (11g, 5a). Alexandre Jacob (3g, 11a) is tied for fifth while Liam Leonard climbed to the eighth position… Leonard ranks first in scoring (13 points) and goal scored (6) among the league’s rookies. With his 5 goals, Maxime Grandmaison is the second best goal scorer among the league’s rookies… Leonard and Grandmaison are on fire! They scored at least a goal in three consecutive games… The Blizzard hockey players enjoy a long week off before a series of three local games. On Sunday, October 22, at 3 pm, the Blizzard hosts the South Shore Lumberjacks at the Palladium of Saint-Jacques. Then, it will be the long awaited moment of the first game at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston on Saturday, October 28, at 7:30 pm, against the Western Capitals. These two opponents will face each other again the next day at the Jean-Daigle Centre, starting at 3 pm.
