MIRAMICHI, New Brunswick – A three-goal surge in the third period gave the Miramichi Timberwolves a 5-4 win over the Edmundston Blizzard and a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series of the Eastlink North Division final of the Metalfab MHL Cup. The game was played at the Miramichi Civic Centre in front of 1,543 spectators.
David Doucet broke a 4-4 tie at 11:06 in the third with a one-timer slap shot during a power play. First star for the second consecutive game, Doucet finished the night with two goals and an assist. Tim Porter (2nd star; 1g, 1a), Hugo Audette (1g, 1a), Jérémy Duhamel (1g, 1a) and Ludovic Dufort (3a) also had a great game for the host team.
Carl-Anthony Massé (2g), Jérémy Fortin (1g, 1a) and Alexis Jacques (1g, 1a) replied for the Blizzard. Dominic LeBlanc picked up two assists in the loss.
Both teams unleashed 32 shots each. Goalie Jack Flanagan got the better of Nicholas Sheehan for the second night in a row.
The Blizzard had built up leads of 2-1 and 3-2 after the first two periods.
The third game of the series will be presented at the Jean-Daigle Centre on Tuesday, starting at 7:30 p.m.
