EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard of the Maritime Junior Hockey League has learned a great news today.

The Blizzard logo is nominated for the 2017 Creamer Awards Best Primary Logo of the Year. The news was announced today by the website Chris Creamer’s Sportslogos.net, a virtual museum founded in 1997 and dedicated to education of the history of sports logos and sports uniforms.

In the top 10 best new logos nominees, there are five hockey teams including the Blizzard, three basketball teams including two of NBA (Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves) and two baseball teams.

The winning logo will be revealed during the week of December 18-22 by a panel of 15 judges representing sports writers and media personalities.

Design and graphic company Production Rouj of Edmundston, which have won prizes on national and international levels, is honored to have produced the Blizzard logo an the team’s visual identity.

Based on the name (Blizzard), Productions Rouj had to design a logo that would take into account certain comporents of northwestern New Brunswick, such as snow, wind and mountains.

The logo shows the word Blizzard in close-up in a glossy lettering encrusted in the mountainous and undulating landscape of the territory, with the Greek mythology figure, Aeolus, who blows at the top of his lungs to give the sensation of the scorching cold and the snow blustering like a blizzard. The two bluish colors of the logo as well as the white snow marry perfectly to give a representation of the rigor of winter, without forgetting the white marks here and there evoking the blowing snow.

The Blizzard’s communications team sent a simple tweet to Chris Creamer’s Sportslogos.net just before the start of the 2017 hockey season to kick off the process. The message contained the team logo and the mention that it was a new team from the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

“This is great news for a young team like ours,” said Blizzard President André Lebel. We congratulate Productions Rouj for its excellent work in the design of the logo and for having given colors and a picture so representative of our environment that have quickly attracted positive criticism from the public.

“Being nominated by Sportslogo.net is a great distinction and will certainly have significant additional marketing benefits,” said Lebel.
