Two weekend wins for the Blizzard

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Inspired by the presence of an almost full line-up, the Edmundston Blizzard registered two wins this weekend at the expense of the Campbellton Tigers in preseason games. Friday in Matane, Simon Olivier’s squad won 5-2 thanks mainly to three goals from Alex Arsenault. Saturday night, at the Jean-Daigle Centre, the Blizzard shut out its visitors 6-0.

Newfoundland’s Brandon Casey probably had his best Junior A career game. He scored two goals, as did veteran Tristan Fortin. Peter Amanatidis and Olivier Coulombe scored the first two goals for the Blizzard who took control of the game early by taking a 3-0 lead in the opening period.

Fortin completed his game with four points, adding two assists.

Simon Couroux earned the shutout in front of the net for the Blizzard, which ends its series of four preseason games against the Tigers with two wins and two losses. Couroux blocked 25 shots. Xavier Farrah faced 31 shots in front of Campbellton’s net.

Unsurprisingly, Fortin (1st), Casey (2nd) and Couroux (3rd) were chosen the three stars of the game. A special mention to Jérémy Duguay who collected three assists.

On Friday, in addition to Arsenault’s three nets, Peter Amanatidis and Mathieu Pelletier also found the back of the net.

The same two teams will clash again at the Jean-Daigle Centre on Friday, September 16 (7:30 p.m.), with the regular season opener for both teams.
